LaSalle Rowing Club
2009 Programs
This season, the LaSalle Rowing Club is please to once again announce improvements to our programming. The LaSalle Rowing Club will not only work to provide successful programs from last season, but have completely revamped and changed the format for our Learn to Row programs, and are working to develop a small boats and / or sculling course to be offered later in the seasons. Last years goal was an attempt to provide more programming as a way to encourage member participation and to foster friendship amongst club members. This year, our aim is to improve the rowing ability of all members. It is believed that a person who feels comfortable with their abilities in the boat, will have a better chance of enjoying their season. Below is a list of programs we are working to provide for the 2009 rowing season. The club calendar will also mark dates for many of these programs.
- General Learn-To-Row
- The Learn-To-Row course is a 12 hour program aimed at teaching the basics of rowing to novice rowers of all ages. It's a fun chance to learn a new sport and meet new friends. All new members without previous rowing experience are required to participate in one of these programs. Registration begins as early as March and operates on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in registering or have more questions about the program, you can reach us through any of the options listed on the Contact Us page. The cost for this program is $100 per participant, with a discount on membership should you choose to join the club after completion of the program.
- As you may have noticed from the above description, the LaSalle Rowing Club has made significant changes to our General Learn-To-Row program. This program is, and always has been focused on teaching novice rowers of all ages how to enjoy the sport of rowing at the recreational level. The changes are based on a new, extended schedule to ensure participants complete the program with confidence and finish with an even stronger skill set and understanding than participants of previous years. We have attempted to create a variety of schedules to help cater to people's needs, and we have listed these schedules on the club calendar. To summarize, we have both weekend courses and weekday evening courses where you row Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday. All of these run from May 10th until June 12th with a fun race day between novice crews on the morning of June 14th. If you require a more compact program, we will also be offering a shortened, one week program for the week of June 23rd. We row all 5 weekdays and follow up with an extended row (tour) on the Saturday. This week long course offers a quick way to learn the sport, but does not offer the full 12 hours of training.
- PLEASE NOTE: All of these sessions require regular attendance. Rowing is a team sport, and your absence means others will not be able to row unless a replacement can be found. Please also note that we will be taking a few days off for the long weekend, in order help keep attendance up for the program.
- UPDATE: (July 28, 2009) We have added an additional Introduction to Rowing program to the August schedule. Please contact us ASAP to book your spot. We are working to update this information on our website as quickly as possible.

- Advanced Learn-To-Row
- Last season, the LaSalle Rowing Club decided to create an official second step in the process of learning to row. This program is directed at those rowers who want to improve their stroke or simply like the aspect of being coached while on the water. This program is still in the planning phases, so details can not be provided at this time. Please check back for more details, or contact the club via our Contact Us page.
- Small Boats & Sculling Clinic
- Details are still being worked out, as we work to provide a program where we can teach promising rowers the extra skills and technique required to row in small boats and with two oars.
- Secondary School Rowing Program
- The LaSalle Rowing Club has experienced great difficulty in reaching the secondary school crowd. Plans are currently under way to create a program to attract this audience to our club. If you have any suggestions or interest in such a program, please contact the club President, Brandon Bartelds via our contact form. Due to factors beyond our control, this would not be a school program but a way to keep students in boats with their peers, where they will learn the sport of rowing and possibly take the sport to a competitive level.
- Windsor Crew - The University of Windsor Rowing Club
- The University of Windsor does not have a rowing team. Instead, Brandon Bartelds has worked hard over the past 4 years to provide a means of getting university students involved in the sport of rowing. As a University of Windsor club, students are able to come out and be a part of the LaSalle Rowing Club, while keeping crews somewhat limited to the student body. Check us out in late summer for details on our fall season.
