LaSalle Rowing Club
2011 Programs
This season, the LaSalle Rowing Club is focused on improving and building upon programs introduced in recent years. We are working hard to provide the most effective Introduction to Rowing courses we have ever offered while attempting to introduce new ways to develop small boat and / or sculling skills throughout seasons. After completely restructuring our programs a few years back, we have seen members develop much stronger skills, become more engaged in the club, and we have even seen better attendance from the membership as a whole. We believe that a person who is comfortable with their rowing abilities will have a better chance of enjoying their season. Below is a list of programs we are working to provide for the 2011 rowing season. The club calendar will also mark dates for many of these programs.
- Introduction to Rowing (I2R)
- The Introduction to Rowing (I2R) course is an expansion our old Learn-To-Row program. With the I2R program, we have created a month long program intended to introduce participants to the sport of rowing as well as helping to establish routine and a sense of belonging within the club. This eight session, 12 hour program is offered for both youth and adults. It's a fun chance to learn a new sport and meet new friends. All new members without previous rowing experience are required to participate in one of these programs. Registration begins as early as March and operates on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in registering or have more questions about the program, you can reach us through any of the options listed on the Contact Us page. The cost for this program is $120 per participant, with a discount of $50 on the 2011 membership should you choose to join the club after completion of the I2R program.
- This program is, and always has been focused on teaching novice rowers of all ages how to enjoy the sport of rowing at the recreational level. We have attempted to create a variety of schedules to help cater to people's needs, and we have listed these schedules on the club calendar. To summarize, we have both weekend courses and weekday evening courses where you row Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday. All I2R courses run from April 30th until May 31st with a barbeque for all program participants on June 4th.
- Although our primary objective is to get everyone on the water, there is some level of land training that must be completed as part of the I2R course. The first day includes basics such as boat handling and learning the basics of the rowing stroke. It is important that you attend all sessions, including land training. The land session will also provide an opportunity to address questins such as appropriate clothing for rowing, and what to expect when you are on the water. The LaSalle Rowing Club provides all rowing and safety equipment necessary for your time on the water.
- PLEASE NOTE: All of these sessions require regular attendance. Rowing is a team sport and your absence means others will not be able to row unless a replacement can be found. Please also note that we will be taking a few days off for the long weekend (as indicated on the club calendar) in order help facilitate those who have already planned vacations.

- Advanced Learn-To-Row
- Last season, the LaSalle Rowing Club decided to create an official second step in the process of learning to row. This program is directed at those rowers who want to improve their stroke or simply like the aspect of being coached while on the water. This program is still in the planning phases, so details can not be provided at this time. Please check back for more details, or contact the club via our Contact Us page.
- Small Boats & Sculling Clinic
- Details are still being worked out, as we work to provide a program where we can teach promising rowers the extra skills and technique required to row in small boats and with two oars. This is often done in small groups or through impromptu sessions for those with at least one year rowing experience.
- Secondary School Rowing Program
- The LaSalle Rowing Club has experienced great difficulty in reaching the secondary school crowd. Plans are currently under way to create a program to attract this audience to our club. If you have any suggestions or interest in such a program, please help us out by letting us know the details via our contact form. We do however have a growing youth program comprised on many secondary school rowers at a mostly recreational level. Due to factors beyond our control, this is not a school sanctioned program, but does provide a way for students to row with their peers while learning the sport of rowing and possibly even taking the sport to a competitive level.
- Windsor Crew - The University of Windsor Rowing Club
- The University of Windsor does not have a rowing team. Instead, we have worked with students to create an annually created club supported through the University of Windsor Student Alliance. Although this program has failed to run for the past two seasons due to a lack of interest from students, it previously existed for a number of years where university students would join the club as a group for the purpose of training to compete in nearby regattas. If you are a student at the University of Windsor interested in rowing, or know somebody who is, please have them use the contact form to learn more.
